New Perfume Oil Bottles

For now, we are just trying these awesome new perfume bottles out with our new fragrance, Poison Apple. (Update: After many email pleas, we have decided to offer these in all of the scents we offer... See? We do listen!!) They are adorable standing short at 2 ml, twice the size of our mini vials. They are different because they have a phenolic screw-on top, they don't leak and they are way better than the tiny vials. Why? ... you ask? Because, I don't know about you, but every time I try to open one of those vials, I feel like the whole thing might separate and fly out of my hand. Could be I am just a clutz. I've been known to walk into street signs and the occasional wall. That aside, because that is really not the point here, the glass vials have those flexible stoppers and those get me in trouble. It's like they don't like me.

These shortie bottles are now available on Etsy (we like to start there), we are selling 2 ml glass jars of Poison Apple perfume oil in my etsy shop for only $5. If people show interest, we'll start to sell other perfumes in these bottles. (now we do in the etsy shop)

ps: The Poison Apple fragrance does not last all day. But it is heaven and totally worth five bucks to wear it. It will make you want to wear black and paint your nails dark red.

See how cute?

VEGAN, and cruelty free of course!

New Perfume Oil Sampler Set

We recently launched our perfume oils which our customers are raving about and samples are flying out of the door. We thought it would be nice to offer a little gift set with all of the perfume oils all snug in a chocolate colored jewelry box tied with a pretty ribbon to make it even easier to smell them all, either for yourself or for a friend.

We include all four great scents, including:

MAZU SCENT (pronounce Mat-zoo): Coconut milk, lemongrass, blackened vanilla, crushed Indonesian lime leaves, smoky clove, a whisper of jasmine and a tiny hint of dark musk.

RUBY ROCK STAR SCENT: Sun-ripened, freshly picked, ruby red grapefruits hand squeezed over rock candy clinking in a crystal goblet garnished with one tiny baby black orchid.

SEXY LAUNDRY DAY SCENT: A fresh, vibrant, yet seductive scent made from a blend of ylang ylang, rosewood, musk, mimosa, and hints of baby rose and jasmine, softened with notes reminiscent of ocean breezes and clean linen.

INIQUITY SCENT: Deep chocolate, smoky sandalwood, with a whisper of crushed almonds. Dark, mysterious....

Each glass vial carries 1 ml of perfume oil.

We are so happy with our perfume oils and we hope you are too. I ask that you send us your feedback because we love to hear your experience. Positive or negative. It helps us serve you better!

Typical Labeling Process, Wabbit

We are serious folks here at Product Body, so after making a new product, the name of the product along with the design of the label needs to be created. There is a whole process and we are serious about our labels. Brad IS the designer, but when we are at the stage of naming we are both hunkered down at the computer together - we brainstorm for hours and here is just an example of some of the names we come up with during those long grueling hours:

The new product will be available soon. New name to be revealed......

When Product Body was Shashy Bodycare

When I first started my bath and body product business, I named it Shashy Bodycare.  Shashy was a private word/joke between me and my husband.  "What does that mean?" was a question I was presented with daily along with, "How do you pronounce it?  Sha-shy? "  No, I would say.  Shashy, rhymes with Sassy.  Whatever.  Even my friends couldn't say it.  In 2005, I changed the name and revamped the entire line and spent hours, days, weeks and months getting ready to launch it while moving to a different house (stress).

Product Body was born.

I came across these pictures of a few of our old products.  These are the first ever product photos my husband took with a crappy digital camera.  I liked our set design (we have always created all of our set designs).

Whipped shea butter.  Unchanged although now we offer more than one scent and cooler packaging.

Cream - unchanged.  Now we offer more scents and it comes in a better jar where you can SEE the stuff.

This is similar to the Butter Scrub, but with cocoa powder and added scent.

Massage oil, which we do not offer anymore.

Mama Bomb.  Began way back when and has been popular ever since.  I still like the little label.

So, we have grown and sweat and persevered.  I have loved this journey!  So there you have it.  Our story.

Crush On You with Sprinkles!

Yesterday in the attempt to make a more affordable shopping experience for those who are having trouble pulling the trigger on $22.00 for a 9 ounce body scrub, I played around with our Crush On You in Pecan Praline with red sugar sprinkles in a 4.75 ounce jar. I really like the sprinkles. I have gotten into the whole decoration aspect of things lately. ( We made our son's chocolate chip costume with my husband this Halloween).

Looks good enough to eat, I think. When I formulate, sometimes the scents are so appealing and foodie-good, that it takes everything in me not to eat the stuff. I have to say, it doesn't taste very good... I have tried it.

I am continuing to crack the whip on myself. I must make holiday goodies for the (you guessed it) holidays. Fun fun goodies.

Lip Balm In Rare Form

I have been creating a lip balm for myself and looking for a unique container for it. I am pretty bored of the typical tube or hard to open metal disc-like holder. I came across this great wristband with flip-up lip balm container. Or solid perfume, or whatever else you could put in there. It's genius!

Lip balm addicts: this may be the most accessible lip balm container ever. You don't have to fumble through the enormous pile of crap in your purse, your desk, your nightstand.... just accessorize with it and it is at your fingertips in a snap.

Unfortunately it is available on Alibaba, which is an international e-commerce place of suppliers and manufacturers from all over the world. If someone is looking for a specific item they want to import, usually in huge quantities, one would visit alibaba.com. I have never taken part because usually the companies require a minimum purchase of 100,000 units. So if anyone finds this in the States, let me know. I would love to make Product Body lip balms in wristband form.

Going Green

In the beauty business, judging a book by its cover is part of the industry. I do it, you do it, it is part of the consumer experience. When I pick up a jar of anti-aging cream, for instance, in a department store, there are three things I notice.
1. Jar and design.
2. The miraculous claims.
3. Finally, the price.

If the jar is a heavy, glass jar with simplistic labeling, I am more inclined to pick it up. Once it is in my hands, I read on. The claims of the miracle cream making my 36 year old face look younger in 14 days? I'll buy that! Does it ever make me look younger? I try to think it does so that it justifies the pricey purchase. We all do. However, if I see the same cream in a flimsy jar with a less than stellar design on the jar, I probably won't pick it up and read the back or consider the purchase.

Packaging has really been an important part of our process. From the beginning, I always insisted that the more expensive packaging made sense because it was elegant and classy and of high quality. If I were in a store, I would pick up my own Cream because it looked special. Because the Cream was in the heavy bottomed expensive packaging, it feels more special and in turn, makes the consumer feel special after they purchase it. At least that is my experience as a consumer.

The "foot in the door" theory was my big pitch for keeping these expensive jars around. Unfortunately, there is an 8-10 week lead time for delivery of the jars, because the manufacturer makes them to order. The lead time can be a problem because if we get a large order from a retailer, we can get stuck unexpectedly and end up running out of the good jars.

We realized recently that the thick jars we use do not have the recycle logo on the bottom. Can't be recycled? No good. At that moment, we decided that it was more important to make the move to going green. We try very hard to make choices in life and in business to have the least effect on this earth. We use suppliers that use natural clays to refine our shea butter, not chemicals, we support our local sugar supplier who minimally process their sugar, we support organic farmers where we can and we pack our retail boxes with newspaper that we actually read, instead of purchasing filler (because even if we purchase recycled filler, it takes a truck burning loads of fuel just to get it to us!). So when you get our boxes with your goodies, we ask that you recycle the newspaper on your end.

So when our supply runs out on the jars, we are going to be using recyclable jars. Not as pretty, but there is a benefit for you in addition to the recycling component. It holds MORE product, and we aren't raising the price. The jars are cheaper so you not only are part of the movement towards going GREEN, you get more for your money! And what is better than more Crush On You for you?!?

Stay tuned. I will be posting our switch-over when we get close to finishing the jars we have. In the meantime, please reuse the jars. They can be used for holding paper clips, tacks, loose change, sea shells, jewelry....whatever. Reuse, recycle, reinvent. And let's join together to make a small difference.

Holiday Packages

I remember the days when I was a young girl window shopping in New York City during the Christmas season. I was in absolute awe. Every window was perfectly designed to create the ideal scenario of goodies and happiness. I remember walking through the enormous department stores bombarded with visions of presents, glitter, fairy dust, and smells of starch, plastic and perfume. Good memories. Weird.

So here I am trying to understand the holidays as a parent but also as a manufacturer. As a mother I set up the house with cranberries and garland, lights and simmer cinnamon soup on the burner, but as a person making body products, do I make warm mulled cider for the skin so someone can feel holiday-ie all day? I ask myself. Do I want to smell like that all day? When I first smelled that particular scent, I went nuts! It smelled just like New York in the deep Fall after going to the orchard and picking apples. My husband really flipped! He misses New York terribly and living in south Florida provides little memory jogging. There is nothing remotely like New York down here except New Yorkers who Winter down here. That is the worst of it because you get the wealthy retirees but without the culture or style. Now what is that good for?!

So back to Holiday packages. This year my products will be gifts, so if you are in my family or one of my friends, there is no surprising you with my gift selections. But as far as offerings to the general public, we have decided to put together what I would want for Christmas if I didn't make it myself. This comes back to the same way of thinking when I formulate our products. I always work towards want I want to rub on my skin, how I want to feel, what I like smelling on my skin.

Mmmmmm. Happy holidays!
