TAT, Perfumes & Other News

I have been missing in action, again.

s o b u s y

No worries, just caught up in working. A good thing, but we have been crazy busy with wholesale and retail orders. Again, a good thing.

Our turnaround time (TAT):

Our TAT has increased to 3-5 business days. Our sale was great! We were so happy to offer our buy one get one free on all of our full sized perfume oils and many of you took FULL advantage of it. Great job. Perhaps, now you won't have to buy more perfume for a year! :D I am thrilled that many of you came out of the woodwork to try out the perfume oils. I'm hoping there is at least one that speaks to each of you. I have many.

Regarding Perfumes:

We have been having problems with our perfume labels and I have been extremely frustrated trying to find the right solution. Our labels are all hand cut, laminated and finally sealed. Not an easy process, to say the least. I was also surprised to find about two of them where the stickers are beginning to lift off. Well! That was it for me -- a change needed to happen...

There will be new labels for the perfumes as soon as we get them redesigned and printed on new labels that stick forever!

April 1st spring soaps (tomorrow):

I do have soaps to reveal for our spring soap offerings, along with pictures. Not many different ones will be offered but, they are special and we love them. Keep your coffee ready mid morning.... they should be posted here then and offered on our website and etsy shop by midday. Also, there will be so many new ones in about 1-2 months from now, you'll be inundated with choices, so these will keep you busy until then.

In Other News:

There will be a lot of changes at Product Body over the next month or two. All good things, we think. Our soaps will include some recipe changes, many salt soap additions and a new "category" that may surprise and delight you all at the same time.

You all rock!

Poison Apple & Other News

Poison Apple will be removed from our fragrance selections and perfume oils until its return in the Fall of 2011. Spring is springing and we need to make room for fresh scents that we have in store for you. If you want to get a hold of any Poison Apple perfume oils, now would be the time, because starting on Wednesday, Poison Apple will be tucked away until Summer disappears.

I also will be tucking away Salt Snow until next Fall. I have 2 in Black Pumpkin and 2 in Poison Apple that I want to sell quickly, so only on ETSY, they are on clearance if you want them.

However... Poison Apple soap just finished curing, and that will be at the regular price. I just posted those online at Product Body AND the etsy shop.

Out with apples for now. :)

Valentine's Fragrances Are Gone...well...

Cathexis... the dark chocolate rose..
Enchant... frangipani with citrus and lemongrass..

Cathexis will return next year. Enchant won't be returning, though. Perhaps it was too perky and girly for Valentine's Day. The darker, more mysterious scents were the big sellers.

In fact, I got "suggestions" in my email inbox explaining how Lair needed to stay as a permanent perfume oil or they would die. Now, I can't have my customers dying on me, and there are many who claimed they would wither away without it, so, we have decided to add Lair to our permanent collection.

You can thank the drama queens.

Happy?

;)

xoxo Joanna

New, Fatter Cocoa Java Chunks

Coming this week: update: available now on Etsy!

Cocoa Java, the super duper seriously exfoliating, not for the faint of heart or sensitive skinned soap bar is perfect for the winter if you've been snowed in or winter sporting in the snow. It's full of caffeine, chocolate and the smell..... you are going to think someone must have brought fudge in the room with you.

The nicest thing is that this is a wonderful treatment bar for dry indoor heated treated legs, arms and bum. Be careful, though, this allows you to not have to put your muscle into it. We let the coffee do that for you. We believe in pampering so we think ahead.

We Are Caught Up

Just to let you know, we are all caught up on our Scrub Of The Month orders. The packages have all been shipped out. February was Lady Marmalade and it was bubble gum pink with sparkles on top. Oh, I should have taken pictures, but they needed to get out - - chop chop!!

I appreciate our loyal customers for understanding when, on occasion, I get bogged down with one of my medical issues. I thank you all for your patience.

On another note, if you aren't aware, we try to include a small sample in every order. Sometimes we choose a soap sample and sometimes it's a perfume sample. We try to place it on the top so you'll see it....be careful not to discard your tissue paper before finding the sample!

Have a wonderful Saturday!

Some Amazing Feedback About Our Perfumes

Here are just a few of the most excellent little outbursts we've heard from our customers and we are proud to share.

About Lair:

Oh my goodness. I honestly didn't think another fragrance could top '
Lounge" (gor-GEOUS) as my go-to sexy scent, but then I got "Lair!" It's so creamy, sweet, but dark and smoky at the same time. I adore it, and will most definitely be wearing it this Valentine's Day. *growl* Thank you so much for creating another amazing fragrance!

Also about Lair:

OMG Lair! I want to roll around in it forever, it needs to be in a soap, lotion, scrubs, everything. You're not allowed to discontinue it ever!
-Meghan Runyon of Dreaming Tree Soapworks

About Iniquity:

I love this fragrance too! It is warm and dark and sensual, and not too sweet. Perfect for feeling pretty on a chilly winter night.

also...

About Lounge: Mmm wonderful! Purchased for my husband, and it is great on him. Gentlemanly and dark without being too heavy, and it has excellent staying power! Joanna's tastes are spot-on yet again:)

-Sarah on Etsy

I love love love this scent. The grapefruit is a great wake-me-up scent, and underneath the primary citrus scent is a wonderful, warm, sweet fragrance that makes this much more mature and subtle perfume.

-buyer on etsy

I don't think I could love this more. It is perfect.

-Kim of Kim's Kitchen Sink blog

If you have something to say about your experience feel free to send them along so others can feel confident ordering a perfume that is adored by you!

We are glad our hand blended proprietary scents have been so well received.

A Surprise MakeUp Alley Review

Jen at MakeUp Alley wrote this great review and posted it on MakeUp Alley and on Flickr.
Thank you Jen!!

I ordered three Sugar Shea Scrubby Washes from Product Body at Etsy, and she included a perfume oil sample in my box. Here is my review as promised! First the TAT was amazing. She makes each product when its ordered and promised a 3 day turn around. She shipped my order in less than a day. She packed all my items with care inside a sturdy box and surrounded them in soft colorful tissue papers. The box was sealed securely, my items arrived safe and in perfect condition. :) As I opened the box, I first spotted a sample of her brand new limited edition Valentine's perfume oil in Lair. She describes it so accurately on her website, I'll quote her instead of searching for my own words: "Smoky sandalwood, crushed black tea, vanilla drops, cloves, and smoke. This one is sexy and dark. Imagine standing in a cabin in the woods. You've just showered, there's with a freshly lit fire, and you're warming yourself by the crackling flames. A breeze carries the almost imperceptible scent of distant flowers through the window... " I absolutely cannot wait to shower and use this perfume oil. If its as good on me as it is in the container, she may get another order from me. :) And now the Crush on You Sugar Shea Scrubby Washes! I've only tried one with a hand washing, so this is my first impression of the product. The containers are so cute! They each have a scent label on the top for easy ID, they're clear so I can see how much product is left at a glance, the ingredients are written clearly on the label, and they are packed to the top with product. The scrub is not greasy/oily at all and well, it feels kind of like sugar cookie dough! It holds shape when moved around in the jar and is really densely packed, yet loose enough to get some out easily. When I add water to the scoop in my hands and rub it around it turns creamy/milky like. The sugar granules and creaminess feels wonderful on my hands. After rinsing and drying, my hands feel soft, clean and smell great! The scent I tried is Mazu, its a little strong in the jar but softly scented on the skin. If I lift my hands toward my face and breathe in, I can smell it pretty well. I don't think it would interfere with perfumes or lotions. I took a photo here so you can see what I mean about its consistency. I tried my best to capture it. :)

Her scent descriptions are great, so here they are and my comments in parenthesis: Mazu - Coconut milk, lemongrass, blackened vanilla, crushed Indonesian lime leaves, smoky clove, a whisper of jasmine and a tiny hint of dark musk. (I definitely get the coconut, lemongrass, lime leaves smoky clove, blackened vanilla and musk. I am not picking up the jasmine) Ginger Milk Tea - Hot blended tea infused with nutmeg, cloves and vanilla topped with frothy sweet ginger milk.(Definitely getting all these scents with this one. Its not real strong in the jar, so this one may be difficult to smell on the skin if it follows how Mazu was) Raspberry Linzer Cookie - Raspberry Linzer Cookie smells just like that cookie! (I have never had a Linzer cookie, but now I have to. I'm actually running an errand in a bit after this post and plan on looking for some of these. It smells like heaven. A Buttery baked cookie with the brightness of Raspberry Jam and the sweetnes of sugar sprinkles on top, keep the spoons away from me, it smells good enough to eat!) Overall I am completely impressed with the TAT, CS, Scents, Products, and the generous sample I received. I am definitely planning another order as soon as I "use it up!"

An Apology

I would just like to apologize to anyone who ordered last week with us. I experienced a migraine that was without a doubt the worst one I have ever had. I won't get into the details but I was out of commission from Thursday through last night. My bed was where I slept and tweeted from for days.

I will bust my hump to get all orders out today. Please be patient as I rush them out the door.

Thank you!!

Valentine's Perfume Trio

Lair, Enchant and Cathexis.

As promised, the Limited Edition Valentine's Day perfumes were added to our website yesterday. They are completely different from each other and from anything I have made yet.

I am super excited to bring you ....

Lair
: Smoky sandalwood, crushed black tea, vanilla drops, cloves, and smoke. This one is sexy and dark. Imagine standing in a cabin in the woods. You've just showered, there's with a freshly lit fire, and you're warming yourself by the crackling flames. A breeze carries the almost imperceptible scent of distant flowers through the window...

Enchant: Frangipani, the tropical flower that smells so sweet and delicate, mixed with orange and lemongrass. Opening notes are citrus, but as moments pass the frangipani begins to emerge. After a half hour or so, the perfume is at full bloom and smells fresh and clean; it truly is enchanting.

Cathexis
: The delicate scent of the baby roses, so soft and sweet, drizzled with dark chocolate and hot tea spilled on an old cedar table. A take on roses and chocolate that starts innocent, it becomes more lustful than sweet with time on your skin as the rose becomes more prominent.

They are $10 each and $25 as a set.

Go take a look!

Valentine's Perfume Trio

Wooo, have I been busy! I'm sorry I have not been updating this blog for awhile. I have been trying to finish things before I update, but instead of doing that, I'll just keep you all updated on things in the mix. That way you'll actually hear from me more often. :O)

So I have been working on having three perfumes for the upcoming Valentine's holiday. For some it's about love, for some about lust and for others it's about new beginnings, so I will be releasing them on January 17th. They will be sold separately as well as together in a gift set wrapped all nice. Pictures and names will all be released then, too.

Get excited. They are all very different then what I've been doing. I am spreading wings over here. I'd love for you to step on over and give it a whirl.

no hints.

Hope The Holidays Are Treating You Well

I haven't been working for a few days, can you believe it?

I am taking time off to enjoy the holidays with my children. I hope your holiday time has been safe, happy and warm. If you like wild New Year's celebrations, I wish you one more exciting than mine ;) I don't get nuts for New Year's Eve.

So! Enjoy your loved ones, and if you do have to work, make the best of it and enjoy the time you don't have to be there even more.

We'll see you back after the New Year!

Love and hugs,

Joanna

A Bitty Feature Caused A Find

Christa, of cblogs chose one one of our soaps on Etsy to feature as a stocking stuffer under $5. I am honored. Again. I just get tickled every time one of our products get chosen to be featured, especially by someone who has never heard of me or Product Body.

You should check out Christa's shop on Etsy. I just bought something from there. She makes beautiful designed paper / custom illustrations. Love.

Thank you, Christa!

Cubano's Got A Brand New Pair Of Shoes

Ooooooh boy. Our little ol' Cubano has become so popular that we were out of it for a few days before our most recent batch was fully cured. We've decided to add coconut milk to a few of our soaps. Why, you ask? Because coconuts are amazing and the oil and the milk heal the skin and the body and the fruit and scent intoxicate and heal my soul.

In addition to the visual change, we've also added real coconut milk to our formula to make the soap a luxury bar.

Old look. Old formula.

New look
Our Cubano with coconut milk.

They are more exotic looking, fatter and weigh in at over 5 ounces.

Would love your feedback if you try them.

The Cure For Black Friday

What will be cured on Black Friday?

Coconut Milk Shea Butter Raspberry Linzer Cookie Soap. that's what!

That's a mouthful, huh? Yes, Black Friday is the curing date for these honeys. These are my new version of Raspberry Linzer Cookie soaps.

Click for an "in your face" raspberry linzer experience.

I definitely like them better than the first batch I made. But then, we all have to learn how soap behaves with their fragrance oils first before we can work out their relationship.

first batch

The newest version also has coconut milk for a little added decadence. I am glad they are still curing. I have my sweet babies for another week or so. I can still sneak out of bed and smell them when everyone is sleeping. Shhh.

smells like the real deal

Also...

Our Limited Edition Pumpkin Brulee Soap (A yummy fragrance from one of our suppliers has gone out of business and the oils will never be carried here again.) Get this while you can starting on Black Friday. It smells wonderful, but there is a limited supply.

Pumpkin Brulee soap with copper and gold mica

These bars are fatter and heavier than usual. Keep that in mind. As stock runs out of our current inventory, you will see we will be replacing it with larger bars weighing in at 5 + oz and 1 1/8 inches wide instead of one inch wide. Doesn't sound like much of a difference, but when you look and the difference in a bar of soap, it is dreamy bigger. (Brad built me a log splitter and soap cutter. Yes!) Prices will rise, but not by much.

We have lowered some prices this year and lowered shipping on our Product Body website even though shipping has gone up and wild. Have you noticed how crazy shipping has become? Ouch! I wish we could offer free shipping all the time for you guys :(

We have great new soapie things on the horizon, but I will wait until they come to fruition before mentioning them. I had quite a mess of a soap week this past 10 days or so. Lost about 100 bars worth of product. ((head bows in shame)) I think it is due to growing pains... increasing soap production and not getting with the program fast enough.

I'll take that. Like I said to my friend, Lysa... That's a luxury problem I can't really complain about.

Raspberry Linzer Cookie Scent... Oooo

I had a wonderful note on my wall on Facebook last week from a fellow bath and body colleague who tried some Crush On You and Creme Fresh. She brightened my day with her note:
"OMGEEE~! I got my order today, Joanna-that Rasperry L Cookie Scrub is THE BEST Cookie smell I have EVER smelled!!!! WOW, my mouth is freaking out and my brain is Peeved it can't have cookies :) Also the Creme Fresh is now the moisturizer I NEED for my face. I'm Dying! Thanks soooo much :)"

I just had to share because I that scent is so "to die for" and I don't know if people are really believing that this is truly the real deal. It smells like THE COOKIE. A lot of fragrance oils say they smell like stuff and you get it and it's like, "huh? This smells nothing like blah blah blah." But this is the real McCoy. It is now a permanent part of our collection. I can't stop sniffing it. That's why.

My friend, Kim Pilla, made the actual cookies you see in this photo. I did not get to taste them, sadly.
Perhaps the next batch she makes she won't create them the size of her FACE. Then she might have some extras! ;)

The Soap Box Co.

I have been wanting our soaps to be sold at The Soap Box Company online shop for about a year, but between my sickness, closing the shop, moving the studio and five thousand other reasons, it just didn't happen when I originally started the process.

Jennifer, the owner, is wonderful and was very open to the soaps that I thought she might like. We chose the soaps together and now, after months of back and forth, they are on her unique easy to navigate online bath and body shopping site!

I am over the moon happy about it because I have such admiration for the soapers and perfumers that sell with her.

So check us out over there and support our wholesalers! :)

More Changes!

Oh we are full of them lately, you just aren't going to keep up with us...

No, we aren't trying to make you crazy, we are trying to make it better for everyone. The pumps will be used for unscented only until our supply is depleted.

Other changes which I think you will LOVE: We will be adding more soaps and more fragrances very soon. If you haven't signed up for our newsletter, do so to get our up to the minute updates.

I will also post them here if you don't want any email from me.

Soaps currently available:

Cubano
Smash Ball Sweets

On the curing rack:

Mama Bomb - POW!

I know I had the devastating news about discontinuing the whipped shea butter but I have good news on this fine morning....

We have begun to make Mama Bomb at the soap studio and it is wonderful. What? You didn't think I'd take a jar right off the top for my very own self? Pishaw! I put it on yesterday and this morning I am smoother than baby's skin.

Look at these butters:

Doesn't looking at it make you feel saved? Ahh, perhaps I look at it and start dreaming of being teeny tiny and climbing around the cocoa butter and then diving into the shea butter and then sliding right into the smoothitude of the macadamia nut butter. Oh heaven in a jar.

So whether you want to protect your skin this winter or you have a bun in the oven, Mama Bomb might help you rub out that tight, dry, itchy skin. Feel it nourish you. You know you want it.

(it's also good as a lip conditioner right before bed)

Catch it here

Some Changes

As companies grow, I notice that some expand their offerings and some trim the fat and hone in on a few products. Because we are a company that believes in making things fresh and keeping our customers happy, we have decided to trim the fat and hone in on what we believe are our best products so we can make them better every time we create a new batch. We will polish our skills every day. That way we won't spread ourselves too thin.

I believe we had spread ourselves too thin. We weren't making junk, but we were too busy making too much and I am ready to zone in and focus.

These are being discontinued immediately:
  • Coconut Milk Bath Soak
  • Whipped Shea Butter
  • Salt Snow
I understand if you all want to come after me with lit torches for discontinuing the Whipped Shea Butter, but I won't make it anymore. Our Creme Fresh is lovely and our Mama Bomb is very nourishing. I hope you can understand.

I am sorry :(

I do hope you enjoy our soaps. I will be adding more and more every month. Also, keep your eyes peeled for salt bars soon.....

Reducing Waste

As customers, you may have received a box from us that had an amazon.com swoop on the side or a Brambleberry box. We purchase shipping boxes so that we have the proper sized boxes to ship your orders in, however, our studio is half filled with boxes from all of the supplies that we order to make the products you order. It seems irresponsible to buy boxes and then recycle all the others and not reuse some that would work just fine, right?

So instead of buying boxes and recycling ALL the ones that come into our studio, we have made the decision that if an order fits perfectly into a box that is in-house, whether it has been shipped before or not, and it is in good, sturdy condition, we will use it. Or should I say, reuse it.

We have always tried to be environmentally responsible. We recycle, reuse when we can and we use sustainably grown organic palm oil in our soaps so that the orangutans aren't massacred. Please read this article if you haven't already, on the palm oil issue, especially if you soap with it.

If you get your order in a box from amazon.com, you were chosen to be a part of our reusing/recycling efforts. Be proud with us! And no, we don't use anything from amazon.com in our products, but my husband reviews things for them and loves books.

Lounge Perfume Oil

Lounge is our newest perfume oil that smells like a warm and comforting combination of worn in leather, amber, sandalwood and vetiver, an essential oil that smells woody and smoky. When I smell it on my skin and close my eyes, I feel like I'm in a warmly lit lounge with large leather chairs, antique furniture, giant crystal chandeliers, paintings, candles and creaky wood floors.

Thank you for waiting. It was worth it.

Lounge is finally available at our Etsy shop in our 2 ml glass shortie vials and in either of our sample perfume sets: Set of two 1 ml vials and set of four 1ml vials.

our 2 ml shorties

Set of two 1 ml vials

set of four 1ml vials

Lounge will be available in 4ml glass bottles shortly once the label design is complete. The reason I didn't wait was because my customers (YOU) were chomping at the bit so I give you a taste while you wait.

October Scent Reveal

If you aren't aware of the Scrub Of The Month (SOTM) subscription, I'll briefly describe it, but go here if you want more fun details. We've designed 12 unique, limited edition Crush On You scrubs (our most popular non-soap product) in limited edition packaging that we're selling to our customers on a subscription only-basis. We are releasing the scents one at a time, each one only being announced once the previous month's scrub has shipped.

Because we just started and our September shipping date was the 15th of September, we have our new scent reveal. The Scrub Of The Month October scent is

BLAZE
pumpkin, sugar, cinnamon, amber, black pepper

I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
September's scent was Caramel Apple and my teeth hurt just making it.

You may join the subscription at any time!

Lounge Is Coming

Lounge is a new sensational perfume oil that I've formulated. I created it for men and women specifically because I believe there just isn't enough offered at Product Body that appeals to men. Lounge smells like a warm and comforting combination of real, worn in leather, amber, sandalwood and black vetiver. When I smell it on my skin and close my eyes, I feel like I'm in a warmly lit lounge with large leather chairs, antique furniture, giant crystal chandeliers, paintings, candles and creaky wood floors.

The perfume oil will only be available first in our 1 ml and 2 ml glass vials in our Etsy shop as sort of our "soft opening" until we will have it available on our Product Body website and Etsy shop in our 4 ml size with a fully designed label shortly after that.

Stay tuned... next weekend, Lounge arrives.

Update: due to sickness, Lounge will be delayed in its appearance until next weekend. Our apologies.

New Perfume Oil Bottles

For now, we are just trying these awesome new perfume bottles out with our new fragrance, Poison Apple. (Update: After many email pleas, we have decided to offer these in all of the scents we offer... See? We do listen!!) They are adorable standing short at 2 ml, twice the size of our mini vials. They are different because they have a phenolic screw-on top, they don't leak and they are way better than the tiny vials. Why? ... you ask? Because, I don't know about you, but every time I try to open one of those vials, I feel like the whole thing might separate and fly out of my hand. Could be I am just a clutz. I've been known to walk into street signs and the occasional wall. That aside, because that is really not the point here, the glass vials have those flexible stoppers and those get me in trouble. It's like they don't like me.

These shortie bottles are now available on Etsy (we like to start there), we are selling 2 ml glass jars of Poison Apple perfume oil in my etsy shop for only $5. If people show interest, we'll start to sell other perfumes in these bottles. (now we do in the etsy shop)

ps: The Poison Apple fragrance does not last all day. But it is heaven and totally worth five bucks to wear it. It will make you want to wear black and paint your nails dark red.

See how cute?

VEGAN, and cruelty free of course!
